Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, this module has taught me a decent amount. At first, I was apprehensive of using technologies such as JQuery, as my experience of JavaScript prior to this module was sour. Though, Through this module, I have learned and used more JavaScript-based login and as such grown a fondness for it. On top of this, WordPress was a complete unknown to me. I had used services such as Wix before, but WordPress has more functionality than a website building application. Thankfully I was well versed in working with AJAX, JSON and API's due to my honours project.

I have learned the inner workings of WordPress such as plugins and widgets, which will surely be beneficial in the future should I take freelance work, say. But the most was gained in my new-found familiarity in JQuery. Learning how this library works, and what is capable of is very important as JavaScript frameworks and libraries are massively relevant to this day with libraries such as React. 

If I were to do this module again, I would spend a bit of time familiarising myself with WordPress. Watching a video on what is possible, and how to do those things would have been very helpful.

Introduction

Welcome to my blog! In the following series of posts I will begin by documenting my journey to creating WordPress eCommerce site, and demonstrate usage of JQuery, JSON and AJAX.  I will then be attempting to use the Reddit API to interact with my own subreddit. The aim of this task is to be able to operate full CRUD on posts within the subreddit - r/tom_land . This will hopefully be achieved by the use of Ajax requests to the server, retrieval of JSON for post data, and client-side manipulation using JQuery. Enjoy!

Creating a Reddit post

The next piece of the puzzle is to create a post for my subreddit using my application.  For this, Reddit requires key pieces of info or the request will fail. First of all, the 'sr' field is needed, stating the subreddit you wish to post in. Without this, Reddit would not know where to post the content you wish. Secondly, a 'kind' is needed. This could be either 'link', signifying a link to an external source such as a news article, or 'self'. The latter option is for posting a self post (by you) with a title and body - the regular format for a post. Lastly, the title and text of the post is required (obviously). Since this request is being made by AJAX there must be a way to fetch the data that the user has entered in to the request. This stumped me for a while, as my go-to was to use an HTML form, but this system is not synonymous with AJAX, as they achieve the same outcome in a different way.
